Beschreibung des Entwurfs-programmes |
Moscow is my hometown. It can`t exist without parades, snowplows, skis on the Boulevard Ring, the Bird Market, a tiled pool with live fish in a department store, windows with a samovar and geraniums, a bath filled with fresh honey agarics, ammonites on the columns of the museum, a hand-painted advertisement for a movie, a Moscow-Petushki train, a bath-house, a military hospital at a metro station, a huge marble staircase and an oak door.
Moscow has been conveyed many times - as a premonition, a dream, an ambition, a holiday, a threat or a mood. When I encounter such interpretations - I rejoice and call them "Moscow". Moscow does not exist.
My city is only mentioned - in verse, song, film, quotations, photos. Together, these documents create a complete, but ephemeral image. This is not a city.
The task of the project is to create an urban quarter, a chronotope of Moscow, understood on the basis of subjectively selected literature, pictures and films. Since we do not try to reproduce a certain epoch, but collect important features of the urban environment, the project is closer to Utopia than to a nostalgic scenography. We have to define and create a characterization of this "Moscow" together, and to understand how life is organized in our quarter.
After the end of the project, we will spend 7 days in the non-existent city of Moscow and compare the design results with reality.

In literary theory and philology, chronotopes are said to correspond to particular genres, which themselves represent distinct worldviews, ideologies and concepts. The task of the project is to create an urban quarter, a chronotope of Moscow, understood on the basis of subjectively selected literature, pictures and films.
