Beschreibung
des Entwurfs-programmes

The same way a tree provides a habitat for thousands of species, architecture should become a framework supporting a network of pluralities. Circular thinking should trigger a paradigm shift in architectural planning. Circularity should not only be applied to the responsible use of materials, but also in the act of housing as a whole. Our aim is to emphasize the fundamental role played by water, to seek for balance between energy production and consumption of resources, to enhance biodiversity and to craft innovative ways of inhabiting spaces. Water, being a precious and finite natural resource, crucial for all living beings demands careful consideration and should not be taken for granted. At a daily water usage of approximately 190 liters per person (UN data), a mere 3% is allocated for drinking. The majority undergoes processing through sewage systems, treatment, and subsequent reuse. We can do better. How can we use water with more sensibility and efficiency? With these considerations in mind, we will explore the potential of existing structures and related spaces in Biel with a specific emphasis on housing. Through strategic interventions, we aim to establish cycles within these structures, transforming them into new living environments, fostering new synergies with the biodiversity of the site. To better understand the existing context, we will engage in walks, using photography and on-site drawings to document our discoveries. In the studio, we will work with drawings, models, and model photographs to communicate our ideas. Finally, synthesis drawings will serve to summarize the concepts of the projects and convey their stories. The work will be carried out in groups to encourage a collaborative process.
